After a fight of more than 135 years, the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina has finally won federal recognition — becoming the 575th federally recognized tribe in the United States.
This film follows that journey, and the people who carried the fight.
They were always a tribe. It took generations of fighting for this country to say it out loud — and name them the 575th.
Every dollar goes straight into the making of this film: getting the crew back to Robeson County, finishing the interviews with the people who carried the fight, editing, music and archival rights, and putting 575 on screens where the Lumbee community and the rest of the country can see it.
This fund is what carries the production past the finish line.

“This is a story that needs to be told — and it needs to be told by the people who lived it.”
Every gift, of any size, puts this film in front of the people who have waited 140 years to see it.
With special thanks to everyone involved in this film — and to all who join us as production continues.
It goes toward finishing the film and bringing the Lumbee story to life. We’ll keep you posted as the work comes together.
